Burglar resistance standard EN 1143-1 extended
The European certification body ECB-S has extended the burglar resistance standard EN 1143-1. The standard has now been expanded to include the new T2 option. As burglars have started using new and more powerful burglary tools over the years, EN 1143-1 has now been extended to include an tests in which the safe is attacked with an additional tool set.

The ECB-S burglar resistance standards are based on attack methods that are actually used by burglars in current practice. However, the specification of burglary tools in the EN 1143-1 standard has not been updated since its publication in 2019. Over the years, a lot has changed in the field of burglary tools and the tools have become more powerful. Burglars therefore have better burglary tools and other methods of attack. The T2 option is an extra protection against these newer tools. This extra protection may be important in high-risk situations. In such cases an insurer may place higher requirements on the safe. However the current classification system of the standard does not change. The T2-tests are an optional addition to the EN 1143-1 standard. The EN 1143-1 standard now includes four options: Safes certified according to the additional T2 option can be recognised by the addition T2 on the certificate / label. On the example on the left, you will find this safe complies with the EN 1143-1 grade IV standard and has also undergone the T2 test.
