Safe storage of batteries

A good battery cabinet is therefore a good and safe investment. You always store your batteries in a designated fire resistant safety cabinet. In addition to the previously mentioned models, you will also find a compact entry-level model in our range: the Batteryguard lithium-ion L. This model does not contain an extinguishing system, but does have an integrated warning system that sounds the alarm as soon as a fire breaks out. As a basis, we use a certified safe cabinet that offers 1 hour of fire protection according to EN 15659 LFS60P. To enable the safe storage and charging of lithium-ion batteries, we have to modify a number of points in the cabinet. Since this changes the construction compared to the original, no certification may be carried out. However, the fireproof construction of the cabinet remains.

Battery cabinets with automatic extinguishing system

For added security, you can add have an automatic extinguishing system to the Batteryguard lithium-ion XL battery cabinets. Does a battery in this cabinet unexpectedly overheat? Don't panic! When smoke develops, the automatic extinguishing system starts to cool the battery. The extinguishing hose, which is present in the entire cabinet, cools with a foam layer of Berki-cold. This extinguishing foam is certified in accordance with EN 1568. Afterwards, our technical staff will repair the extinguishing system for you.

How dangerous is a lithium-ion battery?

Lithium-ion batteries are regularly found to be the cause of fire. When the battery is damaged, comes into contact with water or overheats (for example, while being charged), it can ignite or even explode. Although a lithium-ion battery is very durable because of its long lifespan, the use of these batteries is therefore not entirely without risk.

Are there regulations for the storage of batteries?

For the storage of batteries there is (still) no legal regulation concerning fire safety. However, rules have been drawn up for a battery charging station to comply with. For example, a battery charging station must be a separate place, free of other equipment. With a battery storage cabinet, you create that separate place. Which is immediately a charging station including a distributor, to prevent overheating.

Moreover, more and more insurance companies want bicycle batteries and tool batteries, for example, to be stored safely. We have already completed various projects with our Batteryguard lithium-ion battery cabinets, for which insurance companies have given their approval.
